What it is
Research overview
What BPC-157 is
BPC-157 stands for body protection compound 157. It is a chain of 15 amino acids, GEPPPGKPADDAGLV, and PubChem gives its formula as C62H98N16O22.
Researchers describe it as a fragment of a protein found in stomach juice. Papers often call it a gastric pentadecapeptide.

Questions about BPC-157?
Ask on WhatsAppWhat the research has examined
A 2019 review in Cell and Tissue Research looked at animal studies of tendon, ligament and skeletal muscle. It noted that most of this work was done in small rodents.
A 2025 systematic review in HSS Journal looked at the orthopaedic and sports medicine literature. It covered proposed mechanisms and safety data. It also covered how the body breaks the peptide down. It stressed how few human studies exist.
Put simply, BPC-157 has a large animal literature and very little controlled human data.
Why BPC-157 is hard to compare across studies
Reviewers point out that most BPC-157 studies use small rodent injury models. Findings in rats do not tell researchers how the peptide behaves in larger animals or people. The 2025 review flags that gap.

How to store BPC-157 powder
Peptide makers say to keep freeze-dried powder in a tightly closed container below -15 °C. Colder is better for long storage.
Bachem notes that peptides tend to absorb water from the air. A desiccant in the storage box and a short warm-up before opening limit moisture uptake.

Regulatory status
In Australia
The TGA lists BPC-157 among the unapproved peptides it warns about. That means the regulator has not evaluated any product containing it.
Australia's Poisons Standard for October 2026 lists BPC-157 by name in Schedule 4, the prescription only medicines. Appendix D, clause 5 also names it. So anyone holding it needs authority under their own state or territory's poisons law.
BPC-157 was added to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List in 2022. It sits in S0, the group of non-approved substances. That means it is banned in tested sport at all times. Sport Integrity Australia publishes a substance page on it.
Glow Labs supplies BPC-157 for laboratory research only.

FAQ
Your questions
Is BPC-157 legal in Australia?
BPC-157 is not an approved medicine. The TGA includes it in its warnings about unapproved peptides. Australia's October 2026 Poisons Standard places BPC-157 in Schedule 4, and its Appendix D, clause 5 names it too. Glow Labs supplies it to laboratories for research only.
Are BPC-157 capsules available in Australia?
Glow Labs supplies BPC-157 only as a 10mg freeze-dried powder for laboratory research.
Is BPC-157 banned in sport?
Yes. WADA has listed it under S0, non-approved substances, since 2022.
Has BPC-157 been studied in humans?
Very little. A 2025 systematic review found the evidence is mostly from animal studies.
What does BPC stand for?
Body protection compound, the name used in the research papers that describe it.
