Melanocortin research

PT 141 Australia: 10mg Bremelanotide Vial

PT-141 Australia listings use the research code for bremelanotide, a cyclic peptide that acts on several melanocortin receptors, including MC4R in the brain and MC1R on pigment cells. It is a close chemical relative of melanotan II. Glow Labs stocks a 10mg freeze-dried vial for lab research only. Orders go out of Gippsland, Victoria, by tracked post and arrive in 2-3 days.

What it is

Research overview

What PT-141 is

PubChem lists PT-141 as another name for bremelanotide, a ring shaped peptide with a mass of about 1025 g/mol. Its PubChem formula is almost the same as melanotan II: bremelanotide ends in a carboxylic acid where melanotan II ends in an amide.

It binds melanocortin receptors, the same receptor family that alpha-MSH acts on. The Vyleesi label names MC1R and MC4R as the most relevant: MC4R sits on nerve cells in the brain, and MC1R sits on pigment cells.

What the trials studied

Two identical phase 3 trials, called RECONNECT, were published in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2019. They enrolled premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder and compared bremelanotide with placebo over 24 weeks.

That work supported US approval of a finished medicine, Vyleesi, for that specific condition. The approval covers the finished product only.

PT-141 within the melanocortin family

Melanocortin receptors respond to alpha-MSH and related peptides. Afamelanotide, melanotan II and bremelanotide are all synthetic analogues aimed at this receptor family, each with its own structure.

Bremelanotide shares melanotan II's ring design. PubChem gives the two nearly identical formulas, C50H68N14O10 and C50H69N15O9, so a mass check must be precise to tell them apart.

Afamelanotide, by contrast, is a longer linear chain of about 1647 g/mol.

Storing bremelanotide powder

PT-141 contains a tryptophan, and peptide storage guides flag tryptophan as prone to oxidation. Peptide powders also tend to draw in moisture from the air.

So the dry vial belongs in a freezer at -20 °C or colder, in the dark, with the cap kept tight.

Regulatory status

In Australia

The approval mentioned above is a US approval for the finished medicine Vyleesi.

In Australia, we searched the TGA's product information database on 26 October 2026 and found no document for any product containing bremelanotide. That database holds medicine information leaflets, so it is not the full ARTG register.

The PT-141 vial we sell is a research peptide for laboratory use only.

FAQ

Your questions

Is PT-141 the same compound as bremelanotide?

Yes. Bremelanotide is the generic name later given to the peptide first coded PT-141, so both labels point to one molecule.

How is PT-141 related to melanotan II?

The two are near twins. PubChem records show bremelanotide ends in a carboxylic acid, while melanotan II ends in an amide.

Is PT-141 approved in Australia?

We found no sign of one. The TGA's product information search lists no bremelanotide product, though that search is not the full register. Vyleesi is approved in the US for one condition.

How should PT-141 be stored?

Freeze the sealed vial and keep it dark. It holds a tryptophan, which oxidises, and peptide powder in general draws in moisture. Let the vial warm to room temperature before opening and reseal it quickly.
