What Semax is
Semax joins the ACTH(4-7) piece, Met-Glu-His-Phe, to a Pro-Gly-Pro tail. PubChem lists the whole chain as MEHFPGP.
Its source hormone, adrenocorticotropin or ACTH, is a pituitary hormone; Semax uses only a short stretch of it.

A 2006 Brain Research study gave Semax to rats and measured BDNF, a growth factor for nerve cells, and its receptor trkB in the hippocampus. The authors linked the changes to learning tasks in those animals.
A 2014 genome-wide study in BMC Genomics looked at how Semax changed gene activity in rat brains after an experimental stroke, finding effects on immune and blood vessel genes.
Both are animal studies, so they describe biology in rats rather than any use in people.

Semax and the glyproline tail
The Pro-Gly-Pro end on Semax belongs to a group of short proline rich sequences sometimes called glyprolines. The same tail appears on Selank.
Russian studies have tested Semax and its Pro-Gly-Pro fragment side by side, including work on blood vessel growth factor genes after experimental stroke in rats.
For identity checks, its mass of about 814 g/mol is distinct from Selank at about 752 g/mol, so mass spectrometry tells the two apart quickly.

Storing Semax
Semax begins with methionine, a residue that suppliers list as easily oxidised, and contains histidine and glutamic acid, which attract moisture.
That points to a tightly closed vial, frozen, dark, with desiccant nearby. Warm it fully before opening.

We checked two Australian government records on 26 October 2026. Semax does not appear by name in the Poisons Standard (October 2026), and the TGA's product information search returned no document for it.
Neither result settles its legal status, so we make no claim about it. Glow Labs sells Semax as a research peptide for laboratory study only. It is not offered as a nasal spray or any finished product.
